Detailed solution for: 08:09 Out of Dye Film

Written by Auto Mation,

There are two likely causes for this error:

a. The fitted dye film has expired (fit a replacement dye film and close the printer lid to continue).

Replace the expired dye film with a new film of the same type. Closing the printer lid. This will cause the printer to initialise and reset the error. When the printer has completed initialisation, try re-printing a card.

b. Dye film sticking to a card and tearing.

This is most likely due to a clear 'overcoat' layer already present on the card. This can only occur if the card being used has already been printed on (rather than a brand new card taken straight from a sealed pack).

Sometimes, it is not always obvious a card has been previously printed on as there may be no colour or text on the card (for example, a card printed from the clear panel in the dye film). This means it can easily be mistaken for a new unprinted blank card.

If an attempt is made to print on the card, the dye film will stick to that card and tear.

The solution would be to repair the torn dye film (see below) and try a re-print using a new unprinted blank card.

How to repair a dye film that has snapped or torn

The film can easily be repaired as follows:

Simply pull a small length of film from the blue rear spool (unused film) and wind this around the white front spool (usually, two to three turns is sufficient to give the required traction when winding the film spool normally to print a card).

Alternatively, a small piece of sticky tape can be used to attach the film from the blue spool to the white spool.

NOTE:  When re-attaching the dye film, make sure the film from the blue spool is taken from the top of the of the spool and attached to the top of the white spool (do not twist the film - please refer to the video using the link below).

Repairing the film this way, will ensure the unused film on the blue spool can still be used and not wasted. Please see the link below to the Magicard website for additional information:
