This error would most likely be generated if a printer firmware upgrade was attempted but not completed due to a loss of status connection between the computer and printer.
The status connection is necessary for the computer and printer to communicate when printing a card (or upgrading the printer's firmware).
Things to check:
a. Check the printer is powered on and fully initialised and that the USB cable is connected between the computer and printer.
b. Check the current status connection between computer and printer:
Open the "Devices and Printers" window on the computer. Right-click on the printer icon and select the "Printing Preferences" option. Click the "Printer status..." button. You should now see the connection status showing as "Connected" (shown against a green banner).
