Detailed solution for: There is no magnetic encoder fitted in the printer
Return to error solutions |
This error is generated if the printer received a print job which requires magnetic encoding but is unable to magnetically encode a card.
There are likely three possible causes for this error:
a. The printer is a standard variant (STD) and not a magnetic encoder variant (MAG).
A simple way to confirm which printer variant you have would be to power the printer on and allow it to initialise. When initialised, a mag variant printer will display the letters 'MAG' in the front panel display.
If this is not visible, then the printer will be a standard variant by default (unless an internal printer fault has developed - please see below).
b. The printer requires cleaning.
The cause could just be a cleaning issue. If the printer has not been cleaned recently, then the magnetic head (which encodes the cards) may have become contaminated with dust or finger grease etc.
A video guide to cleaning the printer can be found on the Magicard website using the link: https://support.magicard.com/solution/cleaning-the-magicard-600/ (This guide shows the Magicard 600 printer but equally applies to the other printers in the series).
c. The printer is a MAG variant but may have developed an internal fault.
Although rare, the printer's internal magnetic encoder may have developed a fault. In this case, the best option would be to create a support case and contact Magicard Technical Support for further assistance.
