Detailed solution for: No colour dye film fitted in printer

Written by Auto Mation,

There are several likely reasons for colour dye film not being recognised by the printer:

a. An incorrect dye film type has been fitted.

All colour dye films will show a series of colour panels. Check the film fitted in the printer is similar to the image below.

b. The settings in the Driver "Printing Preferences" are incorrect for the fitted film (please see the "Colour format" image below).

In the Driver "Printing Preferences", "Card Front" tab, check the "Colour / Resin Black  (YMCK)" option is selected. (This will tell the printer colour film is being used).

Click the "OK" button to close the window.

c. The fitted colour dye film has developed a fault.

If the driver settings and film are correct, it's possible the film is not being recognised by the printer.

All Magicard colour films have a special tag fitted which identifies the actual film type to the printer. This tag is read each time the printer initialises (such as powering up or when the printer lid is closed).

This could be because the actual tag fitted to the film has developed a fault. The easiest way to check this, would be to replace the film with another of the same type (and part number). If the replacement works without problem, this will confirm the faulty film which would need to be replaced. (In this case, the end user will need to contact their Magicard dealer for a replacement).

d. The printer has lost it's status connection to the computer.

If the printer has lost it's status connection, this means there is no communication between the printer and computer.

If this happens, the computer is unable to identify the type of film fitted in the printer (in which case, the computer will see the fitted film as 'monochrome' (irrespective of the actual type fitted).

The printer status connection can be checked as follows:

In the Driver "Printing Preferences", "Printer" tab, click the "Printer status..." button. The status window below should then be displayed. The connection should show as "Printer connected".
