Detailed solution for: Mag stripe verification failed

Return to error solutions |
Written by Auto Mation,

This error is only applicable to printers fitted with a magnetic encoder (MAG variant machines). Magnetic encoding printers can be identified by the word "MAG" in the printer's front panel display.

Usually, after performing a magnetic encoding operation on a mag stripe card, it is common to perform a verification on the encoded data to check for possible errors. This check can be carried out by the printer (there is a setting for this in the driver 'Printing Preferences' > 'Encoding' tab to select this option). The error is generated if the newly encoded data fails verification after three attempts. Following the verification failures, the card will be ejected from the front of the printer.

There are two possible causes:

a. Contamination on the magnetic encoding head.

Contamination could take the form of finger grease or dust etc. Try cleaning the printer using one of the long 'T'-shaped Magicard cleaning cards. These cards form part of the Magicard Cleaning kit - available from your Magicard dealer.

A short video showing the correct method for cleaning the printer is available using the link:  https://support.magicard.com/solution/cleaning-the-magicard-600/ . When complete, try re-printing the card.

b. The magnetic encoding unit has developed a fault.

In this event, the best option would be to contact Magicard Technical Support for further assistance. Sign in or create an account to create a support case.
