Print on Both Sides of the card (Duo)

Written By Darren Garbett

A Duo (double-sided) enabled printer will allow you to select both sides in the driver:

  • Control Panel
  • View Devices and Printers
  • Right click your printers icon
  • Printing Preferences

Print Duo (Both Sides)

  • You can then set your colour preference for each side. (colour or monochrome, etc)

If your printer is Not Duo enabled the duplex printing option will be greyed out.

*See below if your printer is Duo enabled on the display but is actually greyed out in the driver settings.

How do I know if my printer is enabled to print both sides (Duo)?

Power the printer on and when it has initialised the Display will contain the word: DUO = Double sided is enabled.

No 'Duo'?  Your printer is a single sided printer.

It may be possible to purchase an Online Duo Upgrade
(Generation 2 printers:  from 360 onwards, 360, 300, 600, D, K, Ultima)

  • Sign-up for or Sign-in to your Magicard Support Account.
  • Register your printer.
  • If an upgrade is possible for your registered printer the option will be displayed.

Older generation 1 printers (Rio Pro, Enduro) are also possible to upgrade to Duo and this is done via a double sided upgrade specific dye film kit.

Ask your Magicard vendor about Magicard part number: 3633-0052 Dual-Sided Upgrade Kit

- includes a 6-panel full-colour "upgrade ribbon" that enables your Magicard (1st generation) printer to print dual-sided ID cards.

My printer is Duo Enabled on the display but the duplex option is greyed out in Printing Preferences?

This could be a sign that the driver has lost communication to the printer and could be the result of a number of causes. If you are connected to the printer via USB:

  1. Power off the printer.
  2. Go to control panel > devices and printers and remove all Magicard printer icons.
  3. Then reboot the pc.
  4. After the PC is fully rebooted then power the printer back on.
  5. Be patient and in Devices and Printers should be a new Magicard icon.
  6. Right click that icon and select Printing preferences.
  7. On the printer tab set it to both sides (this should now be available to select)
  8. Then set your color formats on the card front tab and card back tab. (colour or monochrome)
