Google Chromebook is not supported

⛔️ Magicard printers or printer drivers do not support Google Chromebook.
If a printer only supports traditional raw socket / LPD / proprietary drivers, ChromeOS cannot talk to it.

✅ Magicard supports Windows, Mac and Linux drivers via these more traditional drivers.

Chrome OS, is a lightweight, web-based operating system mainly aimed for internet use & cloud based apps.

ChromeOS is 100% designed around IPP.

IPP (Internet Printing Protocol) is a modern, fully network-based printing protocol. The idea is that:
 – Instead of installing vendor-specific printer drivers per OS (Windows .inf, Linux CUPS PPDs, etc.)
 – The printer itself exposes its capabilities over IPP, and the OS just queries the printer ‘live’ and prints.

ChromeOS (Chromebooks) print natively over IPP.

In fact Google removed all legacy print drivers from ChromeOS years ago.
Today it supports only driverless IPP printing — specifically:

  • IPP Everywhere

  • AirPrint (Apple’s IPP profile)

  • Mopria (Android’s IPP profile)

  • Officially referred to as “Standard Printing (no setup required)” in ChromeOS

As long as the printer speaks modern IPP (with proper capability advertisement over Bonjour/mDNS or DNS-SD), a Chromebook will discover it instantly and print with zero driver install.

Magicard printers currently do not support this – we only support the traditional driver methods.
